About me…

Research is only a part (albeit a large part) of my life. Here is a bit of my story, including some of the things I like to do when I’m not turning coffee into figures.

Im a person, just like you…

Early life

I grew up in Washington state, specifically the Tacoma area. I loved growing up in the shadow of Mt. Rainier and the beautiful summers of hiking and camping. In a lot of ways I’m a stereotypical Washingtonian: Seahawks fan, coffee addict, Nirvana fan, flannel wearer, and an umbrella avoider. In the summer, you can find me at American Lake.

My (brief) life as a musician

I love punk and hardcore music, and after high school I was in several bands that had varying amounts of success. My bandmates and I toured all over the west coast regularly, and I was lucky enough to do a month-long, full US tour. Great times, but I rarely miss being broke or being crammed in a van for 8 – 12 hour drives.

Hiking & Camping

I try to spend as much time as possible in the outdoors, which is great when you live in areas with incredible recreational areas. I have hiked all over the Cascade and Olympic Mountains in Washington. When I lived in Arizona, I explored all over the Superstitions and hiked the Grand Canyon.

Photography

I love taking pictures, especially in nature while I am hiking or camping. My favorite, but the most difficult, are star pictures.
