Science Outreach
Science outreach and education is very important, but it’s also fun! I love working with kids that are filled with excitement for science, and have an unfettered curiosity for how the universe works.
Scientist in Residence
For the 2024-2025 school year, I joined the New York Academy of Sciences scientist in residence program. This program matches a scientist (me) with a teacher and classroom in New York City. I worked with Mrs. Kalinichenko’s sophomore Earth Science class at the High School for Environmental Studies to design an experiment to test the capability for life to exist on an exoplanet using duckweed as a subject.
After school mentor
For the 2023-2024 school year, I joined the New York Academy of Sciences after school mentor program. This program matches a science mentor (me) with an elementary or middle school classroom in New York City to do a series of hands-on activities aimed at promoting curiosity and enthusiasm for science. I worked with 2nd through 5th graders at PS X037 in the Bronx.
Earth & Space Exploration Day
Several times during my PhD, I contributed to ASU’s “Earth and Space Exploration Day,” hosted by the School of Earth and Space Exploration. The event is geared towards K-12 students and their families to showcase some of the research in the school through fun demonstrations and hands-on activities.
